Basic Job Listing – Security Guard (Toronto)

Position: Security Guard
Location: Greater Toronto Area
Status: Part-Time / Full-Time
Wage: Competitive, based on experience
Experience Required: Entry-level to experienced
License Required: Ontario Security Guard License (see requirements below)

Frequently Asked Questions About The Requirements For The Security Guard Position

  • Age: Be at least 18 years old.
  • Work Eligibility: Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Criminal Record: Have a clean criminal record, meaning no convictions for designated offences that would disqualify you from holding a security guard license (you'll need a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check).

  • Basic Security Training (BST): Complete a mandatory 40-hour security guard training course from a ministry-approved provider.
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR: Obtain certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR (minimum Level A, but Level C is recommended).
  • Licensing Exam: Register for and pass the Ontario Security Guard licensing exam administered by Ontario Security Guard and Private Investigator Testing (SERCO).

  • Training Completion Number (TCN): You'll receive this number after completing the BST course and need it to register for the exam.
  • Passport-Quality Photo: Submit a photo that meets specific requirements (50 x 70mm, clear, recent, etc.).
  • Identification: Provide valid government-issued photo ID, and proof of your eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Guarantor Form: If required, submit a completed Guarantor Information form.
  • Fee: Pay the required licensing fee.

  • Training Providers: Choose a reputable and ministry-approved training provider for your BST course.
  • Study Materials: Utilize available study materials to prepare for the licensing exam.
  • Online Application: Applying online is generally faster and allows you to track your application status.
